Type 38 Improved 75mm field gun in Cadott, WI

This Japanese Type 38 Improved 75mm field gun memorial is part of the Wisconsin Veterans Tribute located along the Eastbound exit ramp of I-29 onto highway 27.  Unfortunately this artillery piece is missing the gunner shield.

It has been noted on other examples of the Type 38 and other types that the serial numbers on the carriage plate is the same as the stamped serial number on the breech and sliding breechblock. This example being an Improved version the three serial numbers found indicate that a new serial number was taken out for the new carriage, and that the breech and sliding breechblocks were not kept matched during the rebuild process.
