(West) M1857 12-pdr. bronze field gun in Berlin, WI

There are two of these civil war cannons in Nathan Strong Park in Berlin. Each cannon is mounted onto a replica wooden carriage. The photos on this page concern the West one which is the one on the left side of the first photo below.

Muzzle face is stamped "No. 28 (registry number), "1862" (date), "A.M. Co."(Ames Co.), "1222 lbs.", and the initials "G.E.P." at the bottom (photo by John Anderson)


Right trunnion - "37" on shoulder which is referred to as the foundry number (photo by John Anderson)


Close up of breech - the small pads at the top and bottom of the breech are present on barrels made by these foundries: Alger, Ames, and Revere. From the muzzle face we know that this is a Ames Co. gun.
